Each group is planned and structured following a logical sequence of activities designed to maximise children’s individual function. Parents work with their children in order to learn skills that they can use at home.
Each task in the programme has a corresponding song and motivating toy. This is stimulating to the children, helping them to recognise which activity they are doing, whilst also having fun.
Every term we have a different theme (eg. countries) and the activities and toys chosen each week are based around a different topic. This provides children with motivation and a wide variety of learning opportunities.
Through guided, structured play using the principles of conductive education, children are encouraged to achieve stepped goals to enhance independence in everyday life. This boosts self-esteem in both child and parent.
By working and playing together, families learn to celebrate success and recognise progress in every child.

Types of groups
· Tiny Steps
This is our introductory group for new families. Once a family have contacted
us, they will be invited in to observe a session and then to attend a Tiny Steps group with up to four other
families. This group is initially a one – off session giving parents
and children a chance to get to know the service and staff.
It also gives the team a chance to get to know new families and evaluate whether
Small Steps is the right service for them.
· Small Steps
These are our regular weekly sessions described above. Each session lasts
for two hours.
· Big steps
Once children are nearing their graduation (click
here for graduation criteria), they may be invited to come to a Big Steps
group. Big Steps runs along similar lines to Small Steps, however groups are
offered on a fortnightly basis.
